Diablo II Updated To Version 1.13d

Blizzard Entertainment recently released a new patch for its still popular action RPG, Diablo II. The update brings the game to version 1.13d and introduces a variety of fixes and changes to the game including added channel and message functionality as well as removal of a known dupe method,

What's in version 1.13d:

New Features

* Ignoring players is now saved between sessions of the game. All ignores are now written out to disk (file: 'ignorelist'). This feature can be toggled by issuing the command '/ignorepersist'.

* Users can now filter messages based on content by issuing the command '/filtermsg '. To unfilter content issue the command '/unfiltermsg '. (The maximum length of a filter pattern is 128 characters)

* Users can now set their home channel by issuing a new Battle.net chat command '/home ' while in the Battle.net chat interface.

* Users can return to their home channel at any time by issuing the command '/home' while in the Battle.net chat interface.

Major Bugs

* Fixed a known dupe method.

* Fixed another issue where players were able to stack auras in an unintended way.

Minor Bugs

* Fixed a bug where Mercenaries wouldn't have multiple auras active when they should have.

* Fixed an issue where players could create games prefixed with color codes.

* Potentially fixed an issue where players would be disconnected when watching the cinematics when in a Battle.net game.

* Fixed an issue where the game would crash when running in windowed mode with sound disabled and the game tried to play a cinematic.

Pirelli Launches the Diablo Super Biker iPhone App

Renown tire manufacturer Pirelli has just announced the launch of a new iPhone app designed to celebrate the success of the Diablo family of performance tires and its renewed role as Official Tire Supplier to the Superbike World Championship. The company Pirelli has released the Diablo Super Biker iPhone App via the Apple App Store and iTunes.

The app allows users to measure their riding performance and discover everything from the lean angle to corner speed without having to buy or mount expensive equipment on their bike.

In addition to that, the new app enables riders to make use of the GPS tracking technology of Apple’s iPhone 4 for immediate feedback on their rides.

“It’s like having a transponder and GPS tracking device right in the palm of your hand. Run your own bike or tire test with this user-friendly statistical data tool for comparing results. Visualize your favourite or best lap in the circuit or recent road ride, then easily upload and share them on Facebook, directly from the app,” Pirelli explains.

The Diablo Super Biker app is currently compatible with iPhone 4 and requires iOS 4.2 or later, and is now available on Apple’s App Store in five languages: English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

Users that download the new app for free will have available the following features:

• Choice between road or track mode

• Bike telemetry data recording

• Lean angle measured using GPS tracking technology

• Measure speed, distance and lap time during track sessions

• Display recorded sessions via Google Maps

• Share your best rides via Facebook

Candlelight Vigil For Earthquake and Tsunami Victims

A candlelight vigil will be held tonight honoring the victims of Japan's earthquake. Mothers for Peace is organizing the vigil in San Luis Obispo at Mission Plaza.

The non-profit is known for their vocal opposition of the Diablo Nuclear Power Plant, weapons and waste on a local and national level.

Two weeks after the devastating earthquake and tsunami struck the county, the death toll in Japan continues to rise.

The latest count by officials shows the death toll to be at over 10,000. Thousands are still missing.

Diablo Vista Middle School students are top mathletes

Diablo Vista Middle School placed won first place in a national math competition against 16 schools in February, with one of its students earning a perfect score.

A group of four students -- three eighth graders and one sixth grader -- ranked among the top 10 students in the MATHCOUNTS competition, a national middle school coaching and competitive mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of fun and engaging "bee" style contests.

"They're trying to enhance student's appreciation of math. The problems are fun problems to work out and they really increases a student's problem solving skills," said Jim Salvi, a teaching coordinator for MATHCOUNTS.

Diablo Vista is part of MATHCOUNTS' East Bay chapter and has been prepping for competition since the beginning of September. Students stay after school on Friday afternoons to practice algebra, geometry and probability with coordinators and student coaches from Monte Vista High.

"There's not always opportunities to dive into a passion when it's academic," said Principal Rebecca Ingram, noting that most middle schoolers don't want to be anywhere near campus after the final bell rings on Friday. "It gives them a whole other place to succeed."

These after school math whizzes are part of an informal club students must sign up for. Diablo Vista usually begins the year with 30 students, which slowly whittles down to four team members and a few independent mathletes by competition time.

" I really thing that this is where our future engineers and scientists are coming from," Salvi said.

After a sprint round to test accuracy, a target round where pairs complete multi-step problems and a team round which consists of 10 problems, Diablo Vista beat Head-Royce School in Oakland by 10.25 points to become champion of the chapter.

Individual competition, Jianming Wang placed first with a perfect score of 46, Bonnie Chen placed fourth and Christopher Hou and Casandra Chung placed fifth and seventh, respectively.

The top three schools in the chapter competition will advance to the state competition on March 19 at Stanford University. Diablo Vista has attended the state competition twice in the past seven years.

Four mathletes will then be selected from the state competition to represent California at the 2011 Raytheon MATHCOUNTS National Competition in Washington D.C. in May.
